Before and After
Here's a couple of pics of Deeks pre and post surgery. She was a little glassy-eyed from the sedative they gave her. Ivy and I thought she would have a meltdown as she was being carted off down the hall. Not a peep. That must of been some strong stuff. Afterwards, on the car ride home, not so tranquil. She later relaxed when she got home and got to watch her new DVD's and get her bearings back.

Totally Tubular
Thea had minor surgery this morning at 7am. We had tubes put in both ears. Everything went fine and she is doing great. Well, a little grumpy, but other than that she has been a trooper. We'll post some pre and post op pics soon. Just wanted to let everyone know that she is ok.

Apologies.....
Go out to all of the moms that I have given dirty looks to when their kid throws a fit at Target or the grocery store because they want something.
- How dare they interrupt my "me" time and shopping.
Apologies go out to all the parents that Marc and I have rolled our eyes at while their child throws a fit...and their food...while having dinner in a restaurant.
- How dare they try to eat a meal in public and ruin our night out.
Apologies go out to the crazy ass families that bring their babies and kids to movies.
- Don't they know the rules of the theater....silence is golden.
Apologies go out to my sister in law and brother who needed a night out on more than one occasion.
- I offered to babysit on Sunday afternoon when it was most convenient for me from....doesn't that count?
Apologies go out to all the moms trying to difuse a situation of 'toddler meltdown' anywhere in public by bribing, yelling, ignoring, or doing whatever it takes while trying to hide the fact that you are totally mortified.
- I, of course, would NEVER do that when I am a mother. How embarrassing.
Apologies go out to all the moms at the mall or the Plaza who 'get in the way' with their strollers and children.
- I will never be a stroller mom whose kids are an imposition to others.
Apologies go out to all the moms that I judged for giving their kids cookies and 'junky' snacks because they simply won't eat anything else and they were afraid they are going to starve to death.
- I mean, who would give a little kid a cookie for dinner. Don't they know anything about nutrition?
In all fairness to us, you can't truly understand what it like until you are parent. And more than that, a parent of a toddler in their terrible twos. Thea is definitely a strong willed girl and is trying our patience every day. I keep telling myself that it's her way of learning and finding out what's socially acceptable. I am pretty sure that it gets easier in some ways. (I can almost hear the snickers from our parents now).
I guess I could also apologize to those who don't have children. Now Marc, Thea, and I are the imposition in their lives with strollers and messes, receipients of rolling eyes, and I "would never do that" comments. But, I have decided not to. They will learn someday and will feel the same remorse that I do and I think that repents enough. Mostly, I won't apologize because with all of the challenges you face being a parent.....I wouldn't trade Friday nights out or "me" time at Target for Thea and her messes any day of the week.

Sunday in the Park
We took Thea and Pork Pig Tenderloin to Loose Park Sunday morning to enjoy the great Spring weather. Thea got a kick out of feeding the ducks bread while Lulu did her best to make us look like the worst dog owners in the entire park. On a scale from one to ten Lulu's anxiety level while pulling into the park was about a 14.5. We gotta get this dog on some meds.

Happy Mother's Day
Grandma and Grandpa Melvin came up to watch Thea Saturday night so Ivy and I could go out and celebrate our fifth anniversery...Thank You. Thea made Mom a custom card with finger paints that she later tried to destroy. She also got Mom some flowers that she later tried to destroy. The card that Dad bought for Mom she tried to destroy. I see a pattern forming.

Dika's nickname dictionary
It has come to my attention that there may need to be some translation on thea's multitude of nicknames. So here's the rundown.
Thea as a baby = the baby bird
Campbell was also the baby bird, so thea then became bird girl
Bird Girl became Birdie. Birdie becomes Birdina Birdika.
Birdika becomes Dika. Dika becomes Deeks.
A few other fav nicknames: Coconut Gut, Diaper Butt, Stinky the Worm, Pinchy the Crab, Sweet little Snoopy, Snoop, Noopy Du, Lil Thea Melvin, Destructo, Dika Destructicon, Dika Butt, Shark Baby, Pigpen, Thea Pia, Nakey the Snakey, Unicorn Girl, Bratina.
Along with most of these nicknames, also comes a song that we've made up as well. So, as you can see...we clearly need help. And a night out....pronto.
